Assessment Overview

Introduction

An assessment is a process for deciding if learning has occurred satisfactorily. Or simply put - it is a test. Both terms are used in LearnFlex interchangeably.

In LearnFlex, the segments of a test can consist of the following:

·        Questions

·        Sections

·        Tasks

You can also apply other elements to your test, such as:

·        Timers

·        Pre- and post-content

·        Feedback mechanisms for those who are writing the test.

Configuring a Test

To configure a test, you can do the following:

1.      Create the test shell. This involves naming the test among other general aspects.

2.      Specify the grades that students will receive based on their mark in the test.

3.      Create the segments - that is, the sections, tasks, and/or questions - within that test.

4.      Specify the answers for the test.

5.      Assign the test to a session.

6.      Publish the test.

Test Question Bank

When creating your questions, you can choose to create them from scratch, or else you can use questions from the Test Question Bank. This is a repository for all questions that have been both created from scratch and then exported accordingly. If questions have been created but not exported, they will not be available from the Test Question Bank to be used in other tests.

Adding a Test to a Session

After you have created a test, you need to add it to a session. This ensures that all students who have taken the session can be tested on their knowledge, receive a grade, and assuming that they passed, have that session listed in their achievement record.

You can associate a test with a session from the Courses module when editing session details.

Launching a Test

For any sessions that use an instructor in a classroom setting, when tests are given are at the discretion of the instructor.

For those sessions that use online tests, you can specify if users can launch the tests themselves from their learning plan.

Adding a Test to a Curriculum Group

You can assign a test to a curriculum group. This operation indicates which instructors can mark the tests.

Marking a Test

After a student writes a test, it needs to be marked. Some questions may be marked automatically, depending on the type of question. For example, multiple choice questions can be marked automatically without instructor intervention, while others, like essay questions, need to be marked manually by an instructor.

Passing Assessments and Sessions

Once a user has completed a session, and passed any test associated with it, then that session will move to the user's achievement record and transcript. If the user failed the test, and therefore the session, then that session will be displayed only in the user's transcript.
