Course Codes

Introduction

The course code is the complete unique identifier of a course. It is made up of the following parts:

·        Curriculum group code: Identifies the curriculum group in which a course belongs.

·        Course number: An alphanumeric value given to a course and its sessions. There are two ways that a course can be numbered, explained later in this topic.

·        Season: Identifies the season when the course is being offered.

·        Year: Identifies the year when each course is being offered.

Despite having these four parts, the course code in LearnFlex typically only displays the curriculum group code and course number. Therefore, the basic visible syntax of a course code is: <curriculum group code>-<course number>. An example of a course code is: CG1-23541.

Numbering Courses

There are two ways that you can give a number to a course:

·        Manually entering the number in each course.

·        Having the course number automatically generated for you. This is done on a per-curriculum group basis. You need to specify the starting number for the courses in that selected curriculum group.

Searching for Courses

When searching for courses In Admin mode, you do not explicitly enter the entire course code of the course you want to locate. Instead, you can specify the course number in a field, and identify the season and year in drop-down lists. The curriculum group code is indirectly referenced through the selection of the curriculum group.

The course code may be shown in the results of some reports, such as the Course Usage report.

In User mode, learners do not have the option to search by course code or number, but can search using the course title. The course code is not used in searches in User mode, but may be displayed in some search results.
